The recipient of the 2017 Kavli Award for Distinguished Research in Neuroscience at Columbia University is Jessica Jimenez, a grad student in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MD/PhD) program.
In an attempt to monitor the Ca2+ dynamics of wide brain areas, we made a transgenic mouse (G7NG817) that expresses the genetic Ca2+ indicator G-CaMP7 in astrocytes and a subpopulation of neurons.
Over the next three years, a team of researchers will chart the complex connections between brain cells that allow us to make and retrieve lasting memories.
